As a non-profit, educational institution, the Hummelstown Area Historical Society relies on the generous support of individuals, businesses, foundations, and local and state governments to fund our programs.
The Hummelstown Area Historical Society is staging a 2016 Winter Show entitled Hummelstown Rocks. The Show will be in the Society’s Parish House. There is no charge for admission. There will be 150 rocking chairs, including cradles which were the inspiration for rocking chairs, and even rocking horses. Rocking chairs of all sizes, shapes, woods, and periods will be on display. Dollhouse, doll, children’s, and adult rocking chairs will be showcased. The rocking chairs are from the Society’s extensive collection as well as from the collections of members and friends of the Society. Rocking chairs from different periods will be staged as special displays. The Show also features early photographs of Hummelstown houses with rocking chairs on their porches; contemporary Hummelstown porches with rockers; as well as photographs of cottages from what was once Stoverdale. The Simpson Room in the Parish House will be converted to a room filled with rocking chairs on which one can rock while visiting with other guests.
